Mitto is a system designed to be highly transportable and rapidly deployable. Somewhere between disaster relief and long voyages into the depth of the wilderness we plan to situate our design, capable of augmenting existing rainwater collection systems or establishing a temporary but resilient system at wherever base camp happens to be.
Mitto is the continuation of a 8 months long graduation project. The first prototype, Noro can be viewed here.

Having returned from the winter break, the design team recapped on the 7 key insights from our first user study session with Noro.
Ergonomics / Trust / Operations / Transparency / Modularity / Communication

More forms and ideas were generated through low-fi prototyping and sketching. However, to further realize the usability of the device, a Mk. 4 prototype is fabricated through 3D Printing.
<img src="http://payload48.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/3264549/Mk4_Portable.jpg" width="640" height="400" width_o="640" height_o="400" src_o="http://payload48.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/3264549/Mk4_Portable_o.jpg" data-mid="16740319" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload48.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/3264549/Mk4_Catchment.jpg" width="640" height="400" width_o="640" height_o="400" src_o="http://payload48.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/3264549/Mk4_Catchment_o.jpg" data-mid="16740313" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload48.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/3264549/Mk4_Components.jpg" width="640" height="400" width_o="640" height_o="400" src_o="http://payload48.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/3264549/Mk4_Components_o.jpg" data-mid="16740315" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload48.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/3264549/Mk4_Interaction.jpg" width="640" height="400" width_o="640" height_o="400" src_o="http://payload48.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/3264549/Mk4_Interaction_o.jpg" data-mid="16740317" border="0" align="left"/>

A 2nd user study session was held with 14 potential users to gain further insights into our new prototype.
<img src="http://payload48.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/3264549/user Study.png" width="640" height="294" width_o="640" height_o="294" src_o="http://payload48.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/3264549/user Study_o.png" data-mid="16740416" border="0" align="left"/>

The first part of the study informed our participants on what Mitto is through a short questionnaire. The second part requires our users to configure the prototype into catchment and portable form while a facilitator observes how participants are interacting with the form. To conclude the session, the facilitators held a short participatory design session with our participants to visualized, prototype additional ideas for the device.

The results of the user study session assisted the design team in narrowing down on the following areas:
Function / Assembly / Visual Communication / Stability / Storage

Our next (and final) prototype was then built to address these areas. First in SolidWorks

and then 3D Printed. The catchment hydrophobic fabric and the carrying case is also introduced.

This architectural study is under Russel Taylor's Spatial Design Course in SFU's School of Interactive Arts & Technology.

The goal of the project was to understand the ideas behind and the context of Zaha Hadid's LFOne. To achieve this, my project team was required to spend a 3 weeks period studying the building.

Two physical models were built in the earlier weeks.

Noro is a system designed to be highly transportable and rapidly deployable. Somewhere between disaster relief and long voyages into the depth of the wilderness we plan to situate our design, capable of augmenting existing rainwater collection systems or establishing a temporary but resilient system at wherever base camp happens to be.

The project began as a rainwater filtration system built from salvaged local material for residences of Vancouver's downtown east side. Here are some early sketches
<img src="http://payload28.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/2878716/Old Process 2.jpg" width="640" height="400" width_o="640" height_o="400" src_o="http://payload28.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/2878716/Old Process 2_o.jpg" data-mid="14633878" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload28.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/2878716/old process1.jpg" width="640" height="400" width_o="640" height_o="400" src_o="http://payload28.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/2878716/old process1_o.jpg" data-mid="14633881" border="0" align="left"/>

However, upon visiting our context, we quickly realized the need for such installation is not necessary. Upon further research into the nature of working with rainwater, the team discovered an opportunity within the domain of outdoor camping. While the team engaged in different ways to explore the potential interaction with Noro, I took the approach of storyboarding in context to develop the experience between the user and the product.
<img src="http://payload28.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/2878716/process1.jpg" width="640" height="498" width_o="640" height_o="498" src_o="http://payload28.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/2878716/process1_o.jpg" data-mid="14633888" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload28.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/2878716/process2.jpg" width="640" height="310" width_o="640" height_o="310" src_o="http://payload28.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/2878716/process2_o.jpg" data-mid="14633891" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload28.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/2878716/process3.jpg" width="640" height="301" width_o="640" height_o="301" src_o="http://payload28.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/2878716/process3_o.jpg" data-mid="14633894" border="0" align="left"/>

To further realize this project, the team headed over to a Home Depot (hardware store) to pick up parts that we can use for prototyping Noro. Upon finishing our Mk. II Prototype, we conducted a prototype study with 15 different users.

Taking the feedback we received from our many user study sessions(which is extremely tiring as well), the team went on to build Noro Mk. III

In Spring 2012, the team entered Noro into Simon Fraser University's Interactive Arts & Technology project showcase.
Noro placed #1 in the Prototyping category and we were also featured on Global TV
Noro also placed #3 in the project showcase at Touch Point 2012: Interaction Design Symposium

Here are some of the print material created for the showcase.

The goal of the CIBC IxA experience is to visualize the data presented in online banking as a way to challenge the implication of monetary interaction.

By presenting the payments and spending history in an abstract form, the interface aims to add a layer of enjoyment to the existing banking system.

In Fall 2011, I had the opportunity to work with FINCAD, one of the leading financial software firm providing analytics tools for over 4000 organizations around the world.
The project brief was to create a kinetic InfoGraphic video for FINCAD's new financial analytics suite, F3. Coming from a design research and design thinking background, I extracted and synthesized the core elements of the complex financial analytics system through the use of an Information Model and InfoGraphics.

After gaining an integral understanding of the overarching system, I used the Information Model as a storyboard to begin building the video.

This was the final project for Russel Taylor's Spatial Design Course in SFU's School of Interactive Arts & Technology.

The project brief was to create a showroom within the context of Granville Island in Vancouver for Italian lighting firm - Artemide.

The project took place over a period of 3 weeks.
During the first week, the team conducted research on the context & the client.
In the second week, the team began prototyping forms based on the information and data gathered in the first week.
The final proposal in the last week synthesized the previous weeks with the idea or parti "Navigation with light" into a proposal for the fictional Artemide showroom at Granville Island.

Research Synthesis, Graphic Identity

dutchDesign 2011 is a field study on Dutch design & architecture that took place during the month of May in Northern Europe.

Along with our Professor, Russell Taylor, the team spent a full semester researching on Dutch culture, landscape, architects and designers to prepare ourselves for our month long field study prior to our departure in late April. At the end of this intensive research driven course, the group ended with a relatively robust understanding of the Dutch design scene in the Netherlands in which I had the opportunity to synthesize and visualize our result into a single information model.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/1679191/model.jpg" width="670" height="566" width_o="800" height_o="676" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/127361/1679191/model_o.jpg" data-mid="8241286" border="0" align="left"/>

Individual members of the group were also assigned interviews with specific designers & architects. Jordan Manning and I had the opportunity to prepare and lead the interview with OMA's Reinier de Graaf and KiBiSi's Lars Holme Larsen.

Near the end of the in-field part of the field study, I was in charge of creating a graphic identity that will be used in our website and our interviews.

The intent of this graphic is to showcase the nature of the field study. Therefore my “client”(which is really my professor) wanted a mark that reflects Dutch graphic design while embodying what the group has accomplished in this month.

After researching into how Dutch graphic design works with type and forms, I have chosen to work with the space created by the contour of the words “Dutch Design”. What came out of this experiment was an architectural shape that references our involvement with architectural knowledge while visualizing the vision of the field study in a graphic form.

This mark was implemented onto a website and a consistent typographic layout was also developed for the interview videos as well.

The implementation of the website was lead by Kevin Fales & Stella Gucci.

Spline Light is a desk lamp made specifically for a workshop- studio environment. The body of the lamp is made from found wood, which affords personalization in the form of "wear & tear" over time. Each Spline Light created by the end user is completely unique as various kind of wood gives the lamp a completely different identity.

The Principal Design Component of the Imbuto was derived from an intersection unit in pipelines. The idea explores the intangible and omnidirectional nature of light which lead to a form that attempts to contain the light and funnel its direction.

AX3 Multimedia is a collective of talented individuals who have a strong interest in Asian Lifestyle and Asian Pop Culture - concentrating within our interests in entertainment, fashion, gadgets, oddity, sports.

By providing daily content, creative designs, and collaborative projects with clients, we power the web with a high voltage of original works.

As the former lead designer of AX3, I was in charge of
+ Graphic identity development
+ Data visualization
+ Media quality control
+ Directing the design team
+ Design and Innovation Consulting
+ Hiring and interviewing graphic/media design interns.

In the summer of 2011, I had the opportunity to redefine the graphic identity of AX3 and design a media kit for the collective.
